Sunday October 23rd started on the sea of Lignano the 23rd Autumn Championship of the Lagoon, a competition that will end the 6th of November. In this time, the boats will compete not only in front of the beach of Lignano, but on all waters of the regional coast.

The first day of competition has been very exciting: the Bora, a northern to north-east wind, that began to blow in the morning has guaranteed a certain speed for all boats and also some difficulty. In fact, if on the one hand the Bora wind gives speed, on the other hand its sudden changes of direction put a strain on the technical capabilities of competitors. Just for this reason, the sea of Lignano gave to everybody two really technical and spectacular competitions, one at midday and the other in the afternoon. In short, it was impossible improvise, you had to be very careful and be real experts to control the boat under the influence of the weird Bora wind.

With 40 boats in the contest, the competition has been very breathtaking and the organizers hope to see the same show Saturday 29th October with the regatta, that will start at midday.

The Autumn Championship of the Lagoon 2011 is organized, among the others, by the Yacht Club Lignano and it is valid for the assignment of another very important trophy, where protagonists are the seas of Lignano and Caorle: the 4th Cup of the Two Lagoons. This Cup will be awarded on November 27th and are involved the boats that take part in the autumn contests of Lignano Sabbiadoro and Caorle. With the joining of these two rankings will arise the winners of the Cup, also organized by Yacht Club Lignano and the Circolo Nautico Porto Santa Margherita.

Beyond the beautiful beach, Lignano shows to have also an exceptional sea for regattas and, in fact, many championships take place throughout the year in the seaside resort. A reality that has many fans, who come from all over Italy to compete with their boats for various awards.

And in terms of boats, we can not forget Nautilia, the used boat show that takes place in Aprilia Marittima, few kilometres from Lignano. Contenders have also the opportunity to visit this special show, even if they will not find racing boats, but only pleasure boats from 7 to 20 meters of length. Maybe someone is looking for a boat for excursions, as well as for a racing.

Saturday October 29th at 12.00 o’ clock starts the last regatta of the 23rd Autumn Championship of Lagoon on the water in front of the beach of Lignano. Anyone who wants to see a show with more than 40 boats at sea chase fro the award, can not miss this so important event.

Tuesday 20th September drew the curtain over the European Masters Games in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

With the closing ceremony under the big structure of Games Centre, for fear of bad weather, for fear of bad weather, the European Games for the over 30 have completed and Lignano gave the flag to Nice 2015, not to forget the World Masters Games in Turin 2013. The evening has been easy, experienced more as a greeting between friends than a pompous ceremony.

On the stage of Games Centre, in front of a large audience comfortably sitting, took turns in the thanks and farewell speeches the mayor of Lignano, the councillor for sports of the region as well as assistant president of the organizing committee and the general director of the International Federation of Masters Games. First of the authorities, was given space to Lignano, its beach, city and all places that hosted the competitions.

On a large screen have been projected the most significant images of these days of competition, offering the public moments of great emotion. After the speeches, there was a moment of entertainment for all audience with the twirling group of Lignano Sabbiadoro, that performed in this sport and in a charming luminous choreography with lights off.

Finished the show, very appreciated by the public, has been the moment of the group toast, that officially gave the go-party for all presents. Much of the public filled the dance floor thanks to 2 Djs, which have proposed a beautiful repertoire of songs, from the oldest to the most recent.

Besides the speeches, the show and the dance, people has also tasted an excellent pasta, offered by the organizers. All tables were full of pasta dishes and wine glasses, creating a convivial atmosphere, ideal to reinforce friendships and go out with a bang the Masters Games of Lignano.

With this evening, the city of Lignano has definitely left a good memory of itself and its games, of volunteers and of many people who have been busy to carry out all competitions and ensure the right services to athletes and their trainers. Masters Games have been an important showcase to present the beach of Lignano and many towns in Friuli to more then 4000 athletes, not to mention trainers and family members that followed them up there.

In addition to know different cities and towns of Friuli thanks to the competition, athletes were able to visit other places thanks to the excursions sponsored by the organizing committee. More than 1000 people attended these guided tours and the favourite destinations have been Trieste, Udine, Grado, Marano and Venice, all cities and towns at few kilometres from Lignano Sabbiadoro.

With these trips, Lignano shown also to be a very good departure point for excursions to the most important cities of the eastern Italy and to typical towns, rich in charm, history and excellent local products.

The city of Lignano Sabbiadoro begins already to dress up for the Christmas time.

Most part of open shops offer windows decorated with Christmas trees, decorations, snowy landscapes, snowflakes and snowmen. Along the streets of the pedestrian zone in Lignano Sabbiadoro and in the biggest roundabout of the city begins also the preparation for the firs rich in lights and decorations and for the illuminations.
Just in Piazza Fontana, the centre of the seaside resort, reach the height of the beauty with the lights that from its high fir radiate along the pedestrian streets and towards Terrazza a Mare, where will be organized the Sand Crib.

Concerning this, preparations are well under way, so that the tension structure is already assembled and, as promised by the organizer Lignano in Fiore, it is much larger than in previous years. Differently from past years, the big tent is set up directly on the beach and not on the square. This decision was taken by organizers to facilitate the flood of thousands of visitors. All this suggests a very special Sand Crib, which will leave everyone speechless.
The opening of the beautiful work will be Saturday, December 4th at 5.00 p.m. and it will be open to visitors until January 9th, 2011 at the following times: from Sunday 5th to Wednesday 8th December and from Saturday, December 11th to Sunday, January 9th from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. and from 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., while in the remaining days only in the afternoon.

Probably also this year the centre of Lignano Sabbiadoro will be gladdened by sweet music broadcasted by loudspeakers on the streets, which cheers up the stroll and make the atmosphere much more magical. Despite the cold, many people are happy to spend afternoons during the weekends in the seaside resort walking not only along the promenade, but also on the beach. Here children can run and play free all they want and the beach of Lignano in winter is also the right place for those who love ride and for those who like to play with dogs. Near Lignano Sabbiadoro there are different riding stables where it is possible to rent a beautiful horse and reach the beach through paths on the banks of the lagoon and in the pine wood.

For the lovers of shopping, instead, Lignano offers also in winter open shops, that increase during the Christmas time. The stroll becomes an opportunity to buy a present, a flower, a decoration for the home, a dress for Christmas or a perfume, and also to spend a relaxing moment in a warm and elegant café. Coffees, teas and hot chocolates give off their aromas out of the cafés and the evening is the moment of aperitif. Music, spritz, a bit of summer nostalgia and a lot of joy for the arrival of Christmas and New Year fill the cafés until evening.

To allow that also this year the Christmas time is full of emotions and of opportunities to meet the inhabitants of the seaside resort and the guests, Lignano already begins to prepare illuminations and decorations. The lit up city centre with tiny blue-violet stars, the music and the firs make even more magical the beach and the sea of Lignano Sabbiadoro.

It comes again the extraordinary meeting of athletics, that every summer draws crowd on the terraces of Teghil stadium in Lignano Pineta. The 21st “Sport Solidarity” International Meeting of Athletics will be Sunday, July 18th at 8 p.m. and it will involve many athletes from all over the world in different specialities.

Since 1994 the international meeting takes place in Lignano Sabbiadoro and it has always a great success both of participants and of crowd. This shows that the seaside resort besides being a beach city, is also a city suitable for high-level sport thanks to its climate, its land and its sport facilities. We remember that Lignano was chosen as the summer home for the preparation of athletes of the Jamaican team, winners of several world and Olympic medals, led by Hasafa Powell.

Just some of the Jamaican athletes took part in the last competitions of the “Sport Solidarity” International Meeting of Athletics of Lignano Sabbiadoro, together with other fast runners of great international level.

At the meeting there is place especially for disabled competitors, which can show their full potential, the competitive and technical merit. Unforgettable was the participation in this regard of Oscar Pistorius, the athlete symbol of disabled people who want to practice sport at high level. The international meeting has also a role of promotion of Sport for Disabled People (Italian Paralimpic Committee and Special Olympics Games) and every year it donates the offerings to the association Comunità del Melograno Onlus. This association has been formed by families of mental disabled people and they are building a facility for the daytime activities and a family home in Lovaria of Pradamano.

Every year the crowd participates with great warmth to this wonderful evening, which is not only a parade of champions, but is a very important moment for all participant to check the preparation in a period full of meetings and competitions. Moreover, the results obtained at the Meeting of Lignano Sabbiadoro are valid for the new personal best and national records.

To reach the Teghil stadium there are different lines of buses that join it with the entire seaside resort. Also tourists that spend the holiday in the centre of Lignano Sabbiadoro have the chance to easily reach the stadium with the buses and so watch the 21st “Sport Solidarity” International Meetings of Athletics.

Basket&Beach in Lignano Sabbiadoro

After several summers in Udine, for the first year the association Digiemme brings the basketball on the beach of Lignano, more exactly in Piazza Marcello D’Olivo in Lignano Pineta. A wonderful square surrounded by the most famous cafés of the Movida in Lignano and with the blue sea and the golden beach in the background.

The plan of the association is to move to the beach the basketball and the fun of these tournaments with young athletes and fans coming from Friuli and other regions giving a very special shows to tourists in holiday in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

The first match took place July the 10th with the 12° Malagoli Memorial, that in Udine is considered a kind of festival. Also in Lignano it had a great success of spectators, with a lot of tourists and fans of basketball that thronged the steps on Sunday evening. The excellent organisation contributed to this success: very good players from different regions, music, the coloured truck of the region Friuli Venezia Giulia, free ice-cream and the chance to buy photos and t-shirts of the tournament.

For this reason there is a big expectation and agitation for the second match of Basket&Beach, with the 1° “Solo Sport Friuli tv” Trophy. From Friday, July 31st, to Sunday, August 2nd, Piazza Marcello D’Olivo in Lignano Pineta will change again into an outdoors basketball field with a Tartan floor and this time will be the ladies the protagonists of this meeting. Events not to miss are the contest of three-point shot on Saturday evening, the finals for the third place and the super finals for the first place on Sunday evening. Also for this week end, music, videos, ice-cream and stands will frame this big sporting event.

In a mix of basketball, tourism and a lot of fun, “Solo Sport Friuli tv” Trophy waits for all guests that throng the beach and the apartments of Lignano for a week end rich in sport.
