In Lignano everything is ready to spend a happy Christmas holiday.

The square in front of Terrazza a Mare starts to come alive already Thursday 8th December with the opening of the ice skating rink, that will make have fun to adults and children until after the Epiphany. For about a month it will be possible to ice-skate just in front of the beach, surrounded by a special atmosphere.

The fragrance of the sea and the beach of Lignano mix together with the spiced scent of the mulled wine and of the hot chocolate, offered by the kiosk near the ice rink.

All this gladdened by Christmas lights, most of them already positioned, and by the soft music in the entire city centre of Lignano Sabbiadoro.

In these days begin to see the Christmas lights: the wonderful Christmas tree with blue-violet lights that welcomes people at the entrance of Lignano, the coloured lights along the streets of the city and the centre of Sabbiadoro, Piazza Fontana, with its thousands of small blue lights and stars that come together over the fir. This zone is particularly evocative in the evening, illuminated by a beautiful composition of lights which then spread along the pedestrian street. And just a short walk from here, there is the ice rink with its kisok and the stand with the Sand Crib.

Even this year visitors can enjoy this special sculpture made with the sand of the beach of Lignano and they can, as always, make a donation to charity. In the stand, visitors can admire the entire composition, with dozens of statues of people, animals, scenes of daily life and, always placed in particular positions, the scene of the Nativity. In addition, through pictures and videos, visitors can see the different phases of the development of sculptures, from the collection of sand, to the first models, until the realization of the smallest details.

To take home a nice souvenir of this visit, there is the possibility to buy calendars, postcards, bookmarks and small diaries of the Lignano Sabbiadoro’s Sand Crib. In addtion, a few days, we should know the surprise of this year: it is said, in fact, that the near the Sand Crib there will be even a “salty” surprise. Another novelty for the Christmas in Lignano that will astonish adults and children and will draw a good number of visitors.

Visitors can also combine a relaxing stroll on the beach with the visit at the Sand Crib or with a moment of fun on the ice rink and stop in the evening in the city to eat a good pizza.

Who says that the beach is nice only during the summer season? The beach of Lignano offers always a good reason for a visit all year round.

Tuesday 20th September drew the curtain over the European Masters Games in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

With the closing ceremony under the big structure of Games Centre, for fear of bad weather, for fear of bad weather, the European Games for the over 30 have completed and Lignano gave the flag to Nice 2015, not to forget the World Masters Games in Turin 2013. The evening has been easy, experienced more as a greeting between friends than a pompous ceremony.

On the stage of Games Centre, in front of a large audience comfortably sitting, took turns in the thanks and farewell speeches the mayor of Lignano, the councillor for sports of the region as well as assistant president of the organizing committee and the general director of the International Federation of Masters Games. First of the authorities, was given space to Lignano, its beach, city and all places that hosted the competitions.

On a large screen have been projected the most significant images of these days of competition, offering the public moments of great emotion. After the speeches, there was a moment of entertainment for all audience with the twirling group of Lignano Sabbiadoro, that performed in this sport and in a charming luminous choreography with lights off.

Finished the show, very appreciated by the public, has been the moment of the group toast, that officially gave the go-party for all presents. Much of the public filled the dance floor thanks to 2 Djs, which have proposed a beautiful repertoire of songs, from the oldest to the most recent.

Besides the speeches, the show and the dance, people has also tasted an excellent pasta, offered by the organizers. All tables were full of pasta dishes and wine glasses, creating a convivial atmosphere, ideal to reinforce friendships and go out with a bang the Masters Games of Lignano.

With this evening, the city of Lignano has definitely left a good memory of itself and its games, of volunteers and of many people who have been busy to carry out all competitions and ensure the right services to athletes and their trainers. Masters Games have been an important showcase to present the beach of Lignano and many towns in Friuli to more then 4000 athletes, not to mention trainers and family members that followed them up there.

In addition to know different cities and towns of Friuli thanks to the competition, athletes were able to visit other places thanks to the excursions sponsored by the organizing committee. More than 1000 people attended these guided tours and the favourite destinations have been Trieste, Udine, Grado, Marano and Venice, all cities and towns at few kilometres from Lignano Sabbiadoro.

With these trips, Lignano shown also to be a very good departure point for excursions to the most important cities of the eastern Italy and to typical towns, rich in charm, history and excellent local products.

Slowly the winter gives away to spring and the first warm rays of sun light and heat the city and the beach of Lignano.

The desire to go out and stay outdoors after the winter months is a lot and you can see it by the large number of people that during these past sunny weekends came in Lignano. The beach and the pedestrian area were teeming with people strolling, children playing and dogs walking with their owners, all enjoying the beautiful sunny days at the beach and foretaste so the summer holiday.

If in these weekends many visitors went to Lignano for a simple walk outdoors, from March they will have also the opportunity to enjoy also many events. Festivals, competitions and shows fill up all weekends of March to reawaken the seaside resort and offer the chance to enjoy the events before the summer season. For several years, in fact the city of Lignano try to extend the tourist offer through the creation of events that can attract many visitors in period of low season. For this reason in March start the first events and are presented the upcoming events of the summer season.

The first is the Mollusc Festival in Lignano Pineta in Piazza Marcello D’Olivo. A long tradition of 27 years: the Association Fishermen “Al Mare” starts with the first weekend of March the events outdoors of the seaside resort. The festival is increasingly popular, attracting for the first two weekends of March thousands of visitors from all over the surrounding territory. The fish-lovers are always satisfied of the very good dishes of clams, grilled or breaded sardines, baked sardines with onions and squids cooked according to tradition. In addition visitors make also charity, because the money raised from the festival is donate to associations and non-profit organizations.

After delighting the palate, it’s the turn of the eyes with the 29th Friuli Venezia Giulia International Dance Trophy, that held in the gym in Lignano Pineta from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of March. 4000 dancers of every age from over 15 nations will come in Lignano Sabbiadoro to perform in different disciplines of dance: from ballet to street dance, from flamenco to oriental dances.
The shows attracts every year in the beach of Lignano more than 10.000 persons that watch carefully the different stages of the Trophy, that are judged by international juries. Winners will receive various cash prizes and the best, the dancers that stand out during the event for their technique and passion, will enjoy also intern-ships at major Italian and international dance schools.
The Trophy is an European reference point for those who invest all energy in dancing both to make it a work and for passion. In fact in this show there are children from 4 years old that start to dance, teenagers dreaming dancing on the most prestigious stages and also “over”, persons that can not give up dancing a waltz or a mazurka. Besides being a beautiful event, it is also an event that brings up the importance of physical activity even at an amateur level.

The same thing that the 10th March of the Sea in Lignano Sabbiadoro the 27th of March wants to promote. It is not a competition, but an amateur run with different distances: 6, 9 and 14 km to go at their own pace. You can participate individually or as a group or family and the march is for ail those who want to spend a morning in the midst of nature. The march begins from the Hemingway Park from 8.00 to 9.30 am and it winds through Lignano Pineta and Lignano Rivera, discovering these two beautiful green areas of the city.

With this appointment ends the month of March in Lignano Sabbiadoro, waiting for the shows of April, very important month with the first arrivals for the Easter holidays.

Saturday, October 23rd started the exhibition Nautilia, one of the most famous shows of second-hand boats of Europe.
The 23rd fair takes place as always in Aprilia Marittima, few kilometres from Lignano Sabbiadoro, and, with the cooperation of Cantieri di Aprilia, it offers to exhibitors a surface of 50.000 m2, a large area where all displayed boats are on land. A great effort for the organizers, but very appreciated by the visitors, who can view the entire boat, including the hull, the propellers and all that is below the waterline. It is not easy to find a show that offers a similar opportunity. In this way, buyers are sure of their purchase, without fear of finding hidden surprise!

Also this year there are many Italian, Croat, Austrian, German and Slovene exhibitors that brought all together 300 second-hand boats from 6 to 22 metres, but the novelty concern the private sellers: this year for the first time also private can join and suggest their boats. In this way Nautilia expands even more its offer, continuing to propose a direct comparison between ship owner and buyer. Of course, all second-hand boats have a good quality and especially the buyer is followed also after the purchase by Cantieri di Aprilia, a very important reality in this area which gives a range of services related to maintenance.

In spite of the most admired boats in Aprilia Marittima are the medium-large motor yachts, the boats between 6 and 12 metres are the 80% of the show. Thanks to the presence of a large variety of boats, Nautilia can satisfy all visitors. Funny evening, often theme evening, to say goodbye the guests and have fun one more time before the winter. After the closing, start already the projects for the next summer season, to offer something new all tourist on holiday in Lignano. Not only the city is renewed during the winter, but also cafés and restaurants change furnishings and plan new events.

A very particular party that draws every time a lot of people is the fish party “Sardellata” in Lignano Pineta. Now in its 17th edition, “Sardellata” is organized by a group of fishermen and shopkeepers who offer their products. Also this year hundreds of people took part in the event, enjoying great grilled sardines and very good red wine accompanied by live music.

More or less each zone of Lignano organizes small parties, especially shopkeepers say goodbye among excellent dishes after the hard summer work and arrange to meet next summer.

Also agencies in Lignano close their apartments, but they continue to remain active to receive bookings for the next summer. In fact, many tourists book in advance, to make sure to have a particular apartment beach front or a villa in a quiet area of Lignano. This work will be very important, because it will create a new meeting and entertainment place for tourists. By the project, the new promenade would be as the drawing room of Lignano, where it will be combine the maintenance of the green, the growth of parking places, the pedestrian area and the road condition. The aim is to regulate this important street of the city throughout a new more controlled road system, an architectural requalification and an adjustment of service to improve the tourist stream and also the development of businesses.
Within this large and ambitious project there are also the beach offices, because the back of the bathing establishments will be subject of requalification.

It will be a winter of great works in Lignano Sabbiadoro to offer tourists even more beautiful and comfortable holiday in the seaside resort.

Shops for every taste in Lignano, open from morning until evening

During the two week ends, the big kiosk of the Festa delle Cape is always crowded and a lot of volunteers work to help the people in line that want to taste the specialities of the Lignano sea: clams, long molluscs, grilled or breaded sardines, baked sardines with onions and squids. Thanks to this event, tourists have the chance to know also the tastiness offered by the sea of Lignano. In addition, the Festa delle Cape plays an important role in solidarity, because the money raised are donated to charity institutions.

After the Festa delle Cape, piazza Marcello D’Olivo and the entire commercial area of Lignano Pineta are ready for the 3rd Barcamania, exhibition-market of small boats. This year it has been chosen the area of Pineta because it offers more room compared to Sabbiadoro and this allows to easier transfer the boats. Another change concerns the period: mid-March instead mid-February to enjoy a more mild climate. Sure this changes will help the exhibition-market to have a more large public, both of fans and of curios tourists. As matter of fact in this period the holiday apartments of Lignano will be ready to welcome the early tourists, because at the beginning of April there is Easter. For the entire seaside resort, the Eastertide is the first test of the summer season and so all facilities, especially hotels and agencies of Lignano, are open and ready to welcome guest that wish to enjoy the early warm rays of sunshine.

In March there is also place for the sports fans. Two important competitions take place in Lignano: the 28th International Dance Trophy of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the 9th Walk of the Sea.

The Trophy is a competition at the highest level with the best dancers of Europe of all ages. From children to winners of several international competitions, through the parents or senior groups that perform classical ballet choreographies for the amusement of children and public. This competition became an annual spectacle with thousands of athletes with sparkling clothes and with an high professionalism, who perform in various disciplines: classic, modern and contemporary dance, hip hop, belly dance, flamenco and much more.

The Walk of the Sea is a walking race for amateurs, in which every person of any age can participate with their speed. In this way a lot of inhabitants of Lignano and also some tourists take the chance to stroll in the beautiful landscape of Lignano Pineta and Riviera. Along the 3 courses, 6, 9 or 14 km, walkers can eat and drink something in the refreshment stalls. A very good way to breath deeply the air of Lignano and to spend a spring morning.

The new exhibition in Lignano Sabbiadoro

Are you interested in bicycles, motorbikes or cars? The beach of Lignano Sabbiadoro offers two weekends exclusively to the world of wheels and accessories with the new event Ruotamania.

From Saturday, October the 17th, to Sunday, October the 25th, the pedestrian zone of Sabbiadoro turns into an exhibition ground with more than 30 exhibitors. Here you can find the stand with vintage cars and motorcycles, the stand with the latest models, in addition to cycling, motorcycling and car associations and federations, ready to answer every question and curiosity. Ruotamania is not only  a show, but it is also a market: it is possible to arrange for the purchase of a car, a motorcycle, a bike or a quad.

During this two weekends, the main street of Lignano turns into an important showcase of wheels, where exhibitors and associations are available to give all requested information and to show their models. Also the beach of Lignano Sabbiadoro changes his face and it offers as racetrack with bends and dunes. The courses, near Terrazza a Mare, are open to all who wish to experience the thrill of driving a car or a quad on the sand and so live exciting test drive.

Those who prefer to cycle, can take part in the first Ruotamania trophy, cycle race on road for amateurs, Sunday, October 18th. The start is at 10.30 a.m. from Terrazza a Mare and the race stretches along different towns near Lignano, in an attractive course of 79 km through beautiful landscapes.

Not only engines and fascinating vintage and modern models, but also safety driving. Ruotamania offers also road safety education to all visitors, but especially to young people of high school of Udine province. The Italian Motorcycle Federation and the Moto Club Sabbiadoro offer different courses of safety driving from Piazza Fontana to Terrazza a Mare to sensitize public about the importance of a careful driving. During two weekends, federations, associations and police are at disposal to offer useful information about road safety, the new road code, drive licence and much more.

From vintage car to quad, from fully equipped motorcycle to bicycle, from test drive to suggestions for a good maintenance of the vehicle. In Ruotamania there is also the solidarity. Profits of the event, organized by the association Onlus “A smile from a wave”, are directed to the children of the region in socio-economic difficult.

The event binds itself with the solidarity, but also with the revitalization of Lignano Sabbiadoro during low season periods with the organization of events and shows. In this way the association wants to deseasonalize the seaside resort through a collaboration with all strengths of the towns to reappraise Lignano also during the winter season.
