Lignano in Fiore in Hemingway Park, fun and solidarity for children

Tomorrow, Saturday 23rd of April, starts the festival “Lignano in Fiore” in Hemingway Park in Lignano Pineta.

This year the event gains a double importance, because it starts with the weekend of Easter and in addition it celebrates 25 years old.

For 25 years, from middle of April to the beginning of May, “Lignano in Fiore” collects adults and children of the seaside resort and many visitors from out of town in the beautiful park dedicated to writer Ernest Hemingway, to give days of festive atmosphere with shows, music and stall with flowers, plants and typical products coming from different Italian regions and especially to give the money raised from the festival to associations which helps children in trouble.

“Lignano in Fiore” is born as moment of thinking about children in trouble all around the world and every year, beside helping children with terrible diseases and their families, a part of the revenue is used to finance projects for children in poor areas of the world.

The first project was for AGMEN of Trieste, association that helps children with cancer and their families. A great project that lasted 15 years, reaching significant milestones such as purchasing of new equipments for the diagnosis and treatments, economic aid to families, creation of accommodation for parents near the hospital and so on.

In recent years, “Lignano in Fiore” created wells to collect drinking water in Africa, a large center for children in Saò Tomè and many other activities for populations in trouble after calamities: children of Haiti, people struck by Tsunami in 2005 and populations of Bangladesh. All that without forget helping families in Lignano and surroundings.

A such great activity and always rich with new people with new ideas and a lot of enthusiasm celebrates this year 25 years, a very important milestone which will be celebrate in Hemingway Park for the entire festival. From Saturday 23rd to Monday 25th of April, Saturday 30th of April and Sunday 1st of May and the weekend 7th-8th of May Hemingway Park will collect thousand of people in an atmosphere rich in joy and solidarity.

A lot of shows for children, beside the opportunity to run free in the park, stall with flowers and plants and the large white tent, where volunteers cook first courses, meat and french fries fro the happiness of all visitors.

The program of “Lignano in Fiore” is rich in shows of sports clubs, puppet masters and workshops for adults and children, besides different meeting about solidarity, voluntary work and the situation of people in needy areas. But Sunday 1st of May will be the most important day, because at 3 pm there will be the cutting of the cake to celebrate 25 years of the association. To make more magic and colored this moment, there will be also the launch of hundreds of colorful balloons that will make the sky colorful and they will bring with them message of hope.

A beautiful walk in Lignano Sabbiadoro

Sunday 27th of March takes place in Lignano the 10th See Walk, a race for amateur organised by Athletic Club Apicilia of Latisana.

This race is born with the aim to involve all people, from children to adults, to spend some hours in the open air in the green of Lignano Pineta and Lignano Riviera in a period of the year where the climate is mild. To reach this aim, the walk is open to all and presents courses of different length to do with free walk. Those who are trained, can run, but other people can walk and stroll with friends through the pine wood and then  the beach of Lignano, to the Park Hemingway, departure and arrival point. Participants can so also enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Lignano Pineta and Lignano Riviera and discover enchanting places, where also stroll often.

It is possible to register as individuals, groups or families and at the end of the race it is given an award to larger groups. The registration is made directly in Hemingway Park in Lignano Pineta the day of the race from 8 to 9.30 am, only groups must have a form with the list of all participants. The start is free from 9 to 9.30 am and the end of the race is at the arrival of the last participant and anyway not over 1 pm.

From the Hemingway Park participants will run until the centre of Lignano Pineta, where Barcamania waits for them, and the they will continue to Lignano Riviera and the Zoo letting behind road and dirt road and ending with a nice run on the sand until the park, departure and arrival point.

At the arrival there will be water, tea and biscuits for all, and also awards for larger groups. This walk has not a ranking, because it is a in amateur race and anybody can make it.

The aim of Athletic Club Apicilia is to offer the opportunity to take part in this event and spend a morning in the nature, discovering the beauties of Lignano Pineta and Lignano Riviera.

Slowly the winter gives away to spring and the first warm rays of sun light and heat the city and the beach of Lignano.

The desire to go out and stay outdoors after the winter months is a lot and you can see it by the large number of people that during these past sunny weekends came in Lignano. The beach and the pedestrian area were teeming with people strolling, children playing and dogs walking with their owners, all enjoying the beautiful sunny days at the beach and foretaste so the summer holiday.

If in these weekends many visitors went to Lignano for a simple walk outdoors, from March they will have also the opportunity to enjoy also many events. Festivals, competitions and shows fill up all weekends of March to reawaken the seaside resort and offer the chance to enjoy the events before the summer season. For several years, in fact the city of Lignano try to extend the tourist offer through the creation of events that can attract many visitors in period of low season. For this reason in March start the first events and are presented the upcoming events of the summer season.

The first is the Mollusc Festival in Lignano Pineta in Piazza Marcello D’Olivo. A long tradition of 27 years: the Association Fishermen “Al Mare” starts with the first weekend of March the events outdoors of the seaside resort. The festival is increasingly popular, attracting for the first two weekends of March thousands of visitors from all over the surrounding territory. The fish-lovers are always satisfied of the very good dishes of clams, grilled or breaded sardines, baked sardines with onions and squids cooked according to tradition. In addition visitors make also charity, because the money raised from the festival is donate to associations and non-profit organizations.

After delighting the palate, it’s the turn of the eyes with the 29th Friuli Venezia Giulia International Dance Trophy, that held in the gym in Lignano Pineta from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of March. 4000 dancers of every age from over 15 nations will come in Lignano Sabbiadoro to perform in different disciplines of dance: from ballet to street dance, from flamenco to oriental dances.
The shows attracts every year in the beach of Lignano more than 10.000 persons that watch carefully the different stages of the Trophy, that are judged by international juries. Winners will receive various cash prizes and the best, the dancers that stand out during the event for their technique and passion, will enjoy also intern-ships at major Italian and international dance schools.
The Trophy is an European reference point for those who invest all energy in dancing both to make it a work and for passion. In fact in this show there are children from 4 years old that start to dance, teenagers dreaming dancing on the most prestigious stages and also “over”, persons that can not give up dancing a waltz or a mazurka. Besides being a beautiful event, it is also an event that brings up the importance of physical activity even at an amateur level.

The same thing that the 10th March of the Sea in Lignano Sabbiadoro the 27th of March wants to promote. It is not a competition, but an amateur run with different distances: 6, 9 and 14 km to go at their own pace. You can participate individually or as a group or family and the march is for ail those who want to spend a morning in the midst of nature. The march begins from the Hemingway Park from 8.00 to 9.30 am and it winds through Lignano Pineta and Lignano Rivera, discovering these two beautiful green areas of the city.

With this appointment ends the month of March in Lignano Sabbiadoro, waiting for the shows of April, very important month with the first arrivals for the Easter holidays.

The city of Lignano Sabbiadoro begins already to dress up for the Christmas time.

Most part of open shops offer windows decorated with Christmas trees, decorations, snowy landscapes, snowflakes and snowmen. Along the streets of the pedestrian zone in Lignano Sabbiadoro and in the biggest roundabout of the city begins also the preparation for the firs rich in lights and decorations and for the illuminations.
Just in Piazza Fontana, the centre of the seaside resort, reach the height of the beauty with the lights that from its high fir radiate along the pedestrian streets and towards Terrazza a Mare, where will be organized the Sand Crib.

Concerning this, preparations are well under way, so that the tension structure is already assembled and, as promised by the organizer Lignano in Fiore, it is much larger than in previous years. Differently from past years, the big tent is set up directly on the beach and not on the square. This decision was taken by organizers to facilitate the flood of thousands of visitors. All this suggests a very special Sand Crib, which will leave everyone speechless.
The opening of the beautiful work will be Saturday, December 4th at 5.00 p.m. and it will be open to visitors until January 9th, 2011 at the following times: from Sunday 5th to Wednesday 8th December and from Saturday, December 11th to Sunday, January 9th from 10.30 a.m. to 12.30 a.m. and from 2.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., while in the remaining days only in the afternoon.

Probably also this year the centre of Lignano Sabbiadoro will be gladdened by sweet music broadcasted by loudspeakers on the streets, which cheers up the stroll and make the atmosphere much more magical. Despite the cold, many people are happy to spend afternoons during the weekends in the seaside resort walking not only along the promenade, but also on the beach. Here children can run and play free all they want and the beach of Lignano in winter is also the right place for those who love ride and for those who like to play with dogs. Near Lignano Sabbiadoro there are different riding stables where it is possible to rent a beautiful horse and reach the beach through paths on the banks of the lagoon and in the pine wood.

For the lovers of shopping, instead, Lignano offers also in winter open shops, that increase during the Christmas time. The stroll becomes an opportunity to buy a present, a flower, a decoration for the home, a dress for Christmas or a perfume, and also to spend a relaxing moment in a warm and elegant café. Coffees, teas and hot chocolates give off their aromas out of the cafés and the evening is the moment of aperitif. Music, spritz, a bit of summer nostalgia and a lot of joy for the arrival of Christmas and New Year fill the cafés until evening.

To allow that also this year the Christmas time is full of emotions and of opportunities to meet the inhabitants of the seaside resort and the guests, Lignano already begins to prepare illuminations and decorations. The lit up city centre with tiny blue-violet stars, the music and the firs make even more magical the beach and the sea of Lignano Sabbiadoro.

Saturday, October 23rd started the exhibition Nautilia, one of the most famous shows of second-hand boats of Europe.
The 23rd fair takes place as always in Aprilia Marittima, few kilometres from Lignano Sabbiadoro, and, with the cooperation of Cantieri di Aprilia, it offers to exhibitors a surface of 50.000 m2, a large area where all displayed boats are on land. A great effort for the organizers, but very appreciated by the visitors, who can view the entire boat, including the hull, the propellers and all that is below the waterline. It is not easy to find a show that offers a similar opportunity. In this way, buyers are sure of their purchase, without fear of finding hidden surprise!

Also this year there are many Italian, Croat, Austrian, German and Slovene exhibitors that brought all together 300 second-hand boats from 6 to 22 metres, but the novelty concern the private sellers: this year for the first time also private can join and suggest their boats. In this way Nautilia expands even more its offer, continuing to propose a direct comparison between ship owner and buyer. Of course, all second-hand boats have a good quality and especially the buyer is followed also after the purchase by Cantieri di Aprilia, a very important reality in this area which gives a range of services related to maintenance.

In spite of the most admired boats in Aprilia Marittima are the medium-large motor yachts, the boats between 6 and 12 metres are the 80% of the show. Thanks to the presence of a large variety of boats, Nautilia can satisfy all visitors. Those who visit the show of second-hand boats in Aprilia Marittima will find the ideal boats in excellent condition, with qualified staff able to guide them in choosing and at a reduced price.

In these last days of September, Lignano Sabbiadoro says goodbye to the summer season with many public and private parties.

As the cult cafés and pubs of the friulian seaside resort close, they organize special evening parties for all guests with live music, small orchestra or DJ-set in places frequented mostly by young people, appetizers and cocktails that remember the beautiful and warm summer days. Funny evening, often theme evening, to say goodbye the guests and have fun one more time before the winter. After the closing, start already the projects for the next summer season, to offer something new all tourist on holiday in Lignano. Not only the city is renewed during the winter, but also cafés and restaurants change furnishings and plan new events.

A very particular party that draws every time a lot of people is the fish party “Sardellata” in Lignano Pineta. Now in its 17th edition, “Sardellata” is organized by a group of fishermen and shopkeepers who offer their products. Also this year hundreds of people took part in the event, enjoying great grilled sardines and very good red wine accompanied by live music.

More or less each zone of Lignano organizes small parties, especially shopkeepers say goodbye among excellent dishes after the hard summer work and arrange to meet next summer.

Also agencies in Lignano close their apartments, but they continue to remain active to receive bookings for the next summer. In fact, many tourists book in advance, to make sure to have a particular apartment beach front or a villa in a quiet area of Lignano. In addition, during the winter agencies modernize their apartments and offer new services for more comfortable holiday.

The work then continues throughout the entire seaside resort also in winter and among the most important interventions, there will be sure the modernization of Beach Arena and Terrazza a Mare, the completion of some modern palaces with apartments for tourists, and probably the rebuilding of Lungomare Trieste in Sabbiadoro. This work will be very important, because it will create a new meeting and entertainment place for tourists. By the project, the new promenade would be as the drawing room of Lignano, where it will be combine the maintenance of the green, the growth of parking places, the pedestrian area and the road condition. The aim is to regulate this important street of the city throughout a new more controlled road system, an architectural requalification and an adjustment of service to improve the tourist stream and also the development of businesses.
Within this large and ambitious project there are also the beach offices, because the back of the bathing establishments will be subject of requalification.

It will be a winter of great works in Lignano Sabbiadoro to offer tourists even more beautiful and comfortable holiday in the seaside resort.

Many tourists on the beach in Lignano for Ferragosto

Despite the rain of the previous days and the hazardous weather forecast, the day of Ferragosto the beach of Lignano was completely full. The sun was not so present in these days, but since the morning of Ferragosto shone it on the golden beach and warmed the air.

Tourists staying in hotels and apartments in Lignano were finally able to leave their accommodations and jump immediately to the beach to spend the most important day of summer, the Ferragosto (Assumption), with parties and dinners under the beach umbrella. Children and adults overflowed the sea, despite the water was not so hot…but when you are on holiday at the beach, you must go for a dip and swim! With the passing of the hours, the beach filled up more and more, thanks also to the commuters, who flooded in Lignano since the early afternoon because the good weather and the show of Frecce Tricolori (Tricolour Arrows).

The air show of Ferragosto Viva Lignano 2010 was successful: about 100.000 people from the beach and many others from the terraces of the apartments of apartment blocks in Lignano Sabbiadoro watched the show of Frecce Tricolori. The show started at 5 p.m. with exhibitions of helicopters of Air Force, planes of flying club of Pordenone and other teams including the Audace Team (Audacious Team), the only patrol of motor paraglider in the world.

At 6.20 p.m. was the moment for Frecce Tricolori and their aerobatics, that for 25 minutes caught the attention of all tourists in Lignano Sabbiadoro. It must be said that Frecce Tricolori are at home in Lignano, because in the winter months they train in the sky of the seaside resort. The show of Ferragosto becomes also a way to thank the entire city, that offers its airspace for the winter training. After the acclaimed air show, tourists were back in the water to continue the party for Ferragosto.

Many clubs of Lignano celebrated the Ferragosto with their guests, preparing special meals and offering colourful summer cocktails. Until late at night the pedestrian area in Sabbiadoro swarmed with people and many young people continued the party in the discos of the seaside resort.

Theme parties in swimming pools, in the gardens, marathons of Ferragosto in different discos open until the morning and foam parties in others. And in a well-known café in Lignano Pineta the party was in Christmas theme with also the snow at the end!

All that for the fun of the many young people that chose to spend the holiday in Lignano Sabbiadoro.

It comes again the extraordinary meeting of athletics, that every summer draws crowd on the terraces of Teghil stadium in Lignano Pineta. The 21st “Sport Solidarity” International Meeting of Athletics will be Sunday, July 18th at 8 p.m. and it will involve many athletes from all over the world in different specialities.

Since 1994 the international meeting takes place in Lignano Sabbiadoro and it has always a great success both of participants and of crowd. This shows that the seaside resort besides being a beach city, is also a city suitable for high-level sport thanks to its climate, its land and its sport facilities. We remember that Lignano was chosen as the summer home for the preparation of athletes of the Jamaican team, winners of several world and Olympic medals, led by Hasafa Powell.

Just some of the Jamaican athletes took part in the last competitions of the “Sport Solidarity” International Meeting of Athletics of Lignano Sabbiadoro, together with other fast runners of great international level.

At the meeting there is place especially for disabled competitors, which can show their full potential, the competitive and technical merit. Unforgettable was the participation in this regard of Oscar Pistorius, the athlete symbol of disabled people who want to practice sport at high level. The international meeting has also a role of promotion of Sport for Disabled People (Italian Paralimpic Committee and Special Olympics Games) and every year it donates the offerings to the association Comunità del Melograno Onlus. This association has been formed by families of mental disabled people and they are building a facility for the daytime activities and a family home in Lovaria of Pradamano.

Every year the crowd participates with great warmth to this wonderful evening, which is not only a parade of champions, but is a very important moment for all participant to check the preparation in a period full of meetings and competitions. Moreover, the results obtained at the Meeting of Lignano Sabbiadoro are valid for the new personal best and national records.

To reach the Teghil stadium there are different lines of buses that join it with the entire seaside resort. Also tourists that spend the holiday in the centre of Lignano Sabbiadoro have the chance to easily reach the stadium with the buses and so watch the 21st “Sport Solidarity” International Meetings of Athletics.
